Chilly Day Outfit in Italy

Our trip to Italy was nearly perfect...my one wish? That the weather could have been a tiny bit warmer. Sigh. But that didn't stop us from wandering around and getting our fill of la dolce vita!

I bundled up and put together an outfit of layers that kept me toasty. I felt warm, comfortable, and stylish enough so I don't think I stuck out like a complete American :)

what to pack in Italy

One of my most-worn items on the chilly days was my trusty, very packable, and beloved trench coat. This one has served me well -- it's probably been a part of my closet for a decade now. It provided a good outer layer that was comfortable enough to roam the city by day, yet dressy enough to wear out at night. I hunted for a new trench with a hood and extra warmth before our trip, but couldn't find one that was just right. (So Goldilocks of me, I know!) So this trench came along for the Italian trip!

The other staple of my wardrobe? My Adidas sneakers. These shoes were what I reached for nearly every day of our trip -- I felt like I could walk across the whole world in them! And it seemed that all the Italians were wearing them as well, so I fit right in! Style score, right there!

My cross-body leather bag was wonderful. I adjusted the strap as needed to make it either a cross-body, or a shoulder purse, depending on our activity of the moment. That versatility was key. The bag provided enough room so I could carry our camera, water bottle, and de-layer if it (gasp!) got warm out...or more often, stash some extra layers if needed :) It also fit nicely across my shoulders while we traveled with our Tortuga backpacks.

My scarf was also the perfect layer to help fend off the weather. I was very proud of myself for limiting myself to just one scarf on this trip. It was the right one, too! Lightweight enough so it could pack easily, yet provided plenty of warmth when I needed it.

These sunglasses are my life. I love their classic look and they fit my face well. While other styles may be more popular these days, but these ones fit me well and I know that I'll be wearing them for years!

To round out my "outer" layers, I opted for my leggings on this chilly day. Truth be told, one day was so cold that I layered my leggings under my pants! I'll never leave home without my leggings again!
