This fall I am transforming one of our guest rooms into a nursery, as Baby Girl is due in January!

I’ll admit that our guest room has been pretty boring up until now. It’s a room I didn’t really do much with after moving in, besides adding a bed for guests (which were rather few and far between, unfortunately, during the pandemic!). The closet in there is also our catchall spot for offseason clothing storage, luggage, and so forth. It’s been an easy room for me to gloss over until now…but with baby on the way, it’s the perfect time to get it in shape!

The overall mood I’m going for in here is elevated neutral with pops of soft color. I’m not looking for an overly baby-themed room…let’s be honest, the baby won’t care what this room looks like! But if I’m going to possibly be spending late nights rocking her to sleep in there, I want it to be pleasing to me and my overall aesthetic! As she gets older and develops her own little personality, I’m sure this room will transform along with her evolving tastes, so I’ll be making design changes with that in mind.

Two more key things

First off, I have teamed up with Havenly to help me with sourcing. I have a vision for what I want, and passed these inspiration photos on to my designer. I’ll be adding my own additional flair to things, most notably some picture frame molding on the walls, plus a custom closet redo. Working full-time, being 6 months pregnant, and redesigning a nursery all at once means that I must know when to call on for reinforcements, so Havenly to the rescue! My designer will be helping me with the general direction and I’ll go from there! (Note: I’ve worked with Havenly designers before and have always been happy with the results. Read more about my past review here and if you’d like to use my referral code to use Havenly yourself, you can do that here!

Finally, and maybe most importantly, I also decided to join the One Room Challenge to keep me on track with the additional (fun) peer pressure of other designers who are transforming a single room within eight weeks. I, along with hundreds of other designers from around the world, will be posting weekly progress updates as we go. I’ll admit that I attempted the ORC this time last year, but ended up not finishing the project as some electrical issues came into play that I didn’t have the bandwidth to figure out. This time, however, the timing couldn’t be more perfect, as baby is coming one way or another, plus, we are planning to have a small baby shower the weekend following the ORC big reveal!

What’s next

This week I’m emptying out the closet and working with the Havenly designer to finalize our design concept and will begin placing orders. Can’t wait to get this project well underway!
